Srivilliputhur / Tamil Nadu, July 28, 2025 – Devotees gathered in joyous celebration across Tamil Nadu for Thiruvadipooram, also known as Aadi Pooram, the sacred birth star festival of Andal (Sri Andal), on this auspicious Monday. Temples came alive with devotional fervor, cultural rituals, and vibrant festivities throughout the day.
Thiruvadipooram this year falls on July 28, 2025, aligning with the Pooram Nakshatra in the Tamil month of Aadi, which began at 6:57 PM IST on July 27 and will conclude at 8:10 PM on July 28. It marks the celebration of Andal’s divine birth—the revered Alzwar saint and goddess incarnate, beloved by Vaishnavite devotees.
Sri Andal Temple at Srivilliputhur, Andal’s birthplace, was the focal point of festivities. From daybreak onward, throngs of devotees flowed into the shrine, joining elaborate pujas, sacred homas, and fragrant floral tributes in honor of Andal and Lord Ranganatha. The centerpiece of the event was the grand Thiruvadipooram Thiruvizha (annual temple festival), featuring processions, melodious recitation of hymns, and devotional music.
Elsewhere in Tamil Nadu, major Vaishnavite temples—such as those at Srirangam and Kanchipuram—conducted elaborate ceremonies, including Andal’s Thirukalyanam (her divine marriage to Lord Ranganatha) and communal cultural programs. Devotees offered garlands, milk, fragrant flowers, and participated in traditional chanting to invoke Andal’s blessings for prosperity, harmony, and spiritual upliftment.
The festival also serves as a vibrant display of Tamil heritage—lines of devotees in traditional attire thronged temple corridors, while local artisans set up flower stalls, music ensembles, and devotional storytelling sessions. Special midday annadanam (free meals) drew enthusiastic participation from pilgrims and local residents alike.
This year’s Thiruvadipooram was accompanied by environmental pledge drives in temple precincts, urging devotees to plant saplings in tune with the month’s auspicious energy of fertility and renewal. Temple authorities reminded visitors of COVID-era precautions still in place, even as celebrations took on a festive high note.
As twilight crowned the final hours of the Pooram star, temples illuminated with garlands and lamps resonated with kirtans and bhajans. For devotees, the festival served as a powerful reminder of Andal’s eternal message of pure love and steadfast devotion to the Divine. The divine energy of Thiruvadipooram, celebrated during the rainy Aadi month, once again united thousands in prayer, festivity, and the joyous remembrance of Andal’s grace.
